Halifax
Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust
Posted: 24 August
Offer description

The Calderdale, Kirklees and Wakefield Bowel Cancer Screening Programme invites men and women aged 50-74 to complete an at-home test kit (Faecal Immunochemical Test - FIT). If positive, they are offered screening colonoscopy to determine the presence of bowel cancer or potential bowel cancer. The programme includes Lynch Surveillance patients and covers two NHS Trusts: Calderdale and Huddersfield Foundation Trust and the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust.

This post is suitable for an experienced, forward-thinking nurse with an interest in bowel cancer and screening programmes, demonstrating high clinical achievement and a desire to expand expertise in this specialised field. The candidate should possess a 'can-do attitude' and be able to:

* Model standards of care and behaviour through clinical practice.
* Act as a role model for professionalism, integrating policies and procedures within the role and workplace.
* Contribute to local clinical networks and specialty-specific groups, working in partnership with key professionals.
* Participate in shared learning.
* Maintain professional registration and practice through CPD, Nurse-Led Clinics, assessing participants' suitability, acceptability, and fitness for screening examinations, and requesting alternative examinations based on informed choices.
* Use specialist knowledge and advanced communication skills to break bad news and provide psychological support on diagnosis, treatment, and symptom management.
* Act as Key Worker for individuals diagnosed with cancer or malignant polyps at screening.
* Provide follow-up nurse-led face-to-face and telephone clinics for programme participants.
* Participate in Screening Quality Assurance Service visits, supporting the Lead SSPs, Programme Manager, and Clinical Director, and assist in audits and addressing anomalies.
* Promote sharing of skills, knowledge, and experience within the centre and wider community through formal and informal networks.
* The post holder should be an experienced SSP, having attended and passed the mandatory SSP Liverpool JMU course or working towards it within 12 months, or willing to do so. All SSPs must pass this course to remain active, and will undertake BCSS training.

CHFT is an integrated Trust with over 6,500 colleagues, providing hospital and community services across Calderdale and Kirklees. Rated as 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission, it is a top-performing Trust for Elective Recovery, Emergency, and Cancer Care, and is recognized as a national digital leader in patient care.

Our people are central to our mission, and we are committed to a Culture of Care. We seek an inclusive, collaborative, creative, innovative, and compassionate leader to join us in this role.
