Contract & Salary
Band 6 (NHS Agenda for Change). Salary: £39,959 – £48,117 per annum. Contract: Permanent (Full time or Part time – minimum 15 hours per week). Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Full time) or proportionate for part time. Shift patterns include evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays; unsocial hours are payable in addition to the salary.
Location
Medway (East) & Crawley (West). The role is fully office‑based at the NHS 111/999 contact centres. Applicants must live within approximately 45–60 minutes commuting distance of the chosen site.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide remote clinical assessments, onward referrals or home‑management advice using clinical decision support software and other IT systems for patients presenting to the 999 service.
* Support and coach Emergency Medical Advisors (EMAs) and dispatch teams within the EOC (Ambulance resource dispatch teams).
* Clinically assess, prioritise and manage incidents to ensure patient safety and appropriate allocation of resources.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare professionals, using negotiation skills as required to coordinate the best care and facilitate referrals as appropriate.
* Act as a point of clinical leadership and decision‑making within the EOC, including safeguarding and capacity/consent decisions.
Training & Development
Training commitment: 8.5 weeks full‑time NHS Pathways 999, followed by 1 week CAD training (Monday‑Friday). The training and mentoring are full‑time (37.5 hours per week) for both full‑time and part‑time positions. Candidates must attend the full 8 weeks; failure to attend or attend unscheduled will result in termination of employment.

Person Specification – Knowledge & Experience
* Registered with the HCPC/NMC (Adult nurses only) with at least two years post registration experience since 2020 in urgent, emergency or unscheduled care.
* Evidence of CPD in addition to the minimum requirement of the registering body.
* Evidence of supporting development of less experienced clinicians or non‑clinical staff.
* Evidence of communicating clinical information clearly and sensitively with patients, relatives and healthcare professionals.
* Demonstrated experience in telephone triage/remote clinical assessment.
* High level of typing accuracy and computing competence.
* Recognised mentoring, coaching or supervision qualification.
Other Requirements
All positions require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (basic, standard or enhanced, as appropriate). Vaccination against SARS‑CoV‑2 (COVID‑19) is strongly recommended for patient‑facing roles unless medically exempt. Travel between sites for business purposes may be required; applicants must ensure suitable car insurance coverage if traveling.
