About the role
The John Lewis Partnership offers a comprehensive 13-week training program to support aspiring candidates in becoming qualified LGV drivers. Applicants must be 18 years or older to apply.
Successful candidates will complete written and practical assessments. Upon passing the interview, candidates must obtain a C+E provisional license and complete a D4 medical assessment before starting.
Salary range: £12.21 per hour
Contract type: Permanent
Work Pattern: 43 hours a week, including weekends
Location: Aylesford RDC
During the training period, you will be paid £12.21 per hour with working hours from Monday to Friday, 06:00 to 15:00. After passing the program and obtaining your LGV license, your pay will increase to a minimum of £13.71 per hour, based on 43 hours per week. Post-training, shift patterns will be discussed based on business needs.
The role involves completing deliveries, vehicle checks, coupling/uncoupling trailers, maintaining documentation, operating vehicles safely, and adhering to regulations. The program culminates in acquiring a C+E license, followed by on-the-job training for LGV1 Night Shift driving, with assessments throughout.
Essential skills include a full clean category B driving license (manual), driving experience, and good communication skills. A C+E provisional license must be obtained before starting; failure to do so may result in withdrawal of the offer.
Desirable skills include a Goods Vehicle Qualification, C license, and good geographical knowledge.
Note: The application process involves CV upload, online testing, and application questions. The LGV Driver Academy training is fully funded, but if a partner leaves the company within 12-24 months, they may need to repay part or all of the training costs.
