Wheelchair Repair Engineer/Assistant FSE Driver

The purpose of the role is to work independently with allocated tasks within the department and in the community setting to provide an effective and responsive wheelchair maintenance, delivery, collection and repair service for the Dorset Wheelchair Service. All activity must be fully compliant with national legislation and Trust policy. This involves travel across the whole county of Dorset.
This is a full‑time role and may involve some weekend working and bank holidays following a rota system if necessary.
The Wheelchair Service RRP for newly recruited staff is £1000 per annum, paid monthly following a 6‑month probationary period.

Main Duties
* Work independently with allocated tasks within the department and in the community setting to provide wheelchair maintenance, delivery, collection and repair service.
* Ensure all work is fully compliant with national legislation and Trust policy.
* Travel across Dorset as required.
* Supply, repair, maintain and deliver all types of wheelchairs.
* Work alongside a small, friendly team with a passion for service.
* Complete an enhanced DBS check; Trust covers the cost.
Person Specification
Knowledge, Skills and Training
* Good standard of general education.
* Completed relevant recognised engineering apprenticeship/education or equivalent knowledge through substantial experience.
* Sound knowledge of key skills: communication, application of numbers, information technology, working with others, continual learning, problem solving.
* Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to a high standard.
Job Specific Experience
* Previous engineering experience in a maintenance or service environment.
* Awareness of safe working procedures and health and safety requirements.
* Recent experience working in a customer‑focused environment.
Information Technology
* Basic IT skills, normally obtained through practice or training.
* Ability to utilise computer technology for diagnostics of powered wheelchairs.
Personal Qualities / Attributes
* Ability to adapt and manage change.
* Ability to use own initiative within a sphere of authority.
