This role is a pivotal position within the team, combining hands-on support with leadership responsibilities to ensure high-quality care and a safe, nurturing environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead by example as the designated Shift Leader, promoting consistency and best practices across all aspects of care.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with young people through daily routines, offering emotional support, and promoting healthy attachments.
* Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, supporting their development and maintaining high standards of practice.
* Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviour using a trauma-informed, child-centred approach.
* Collaborate with professionals including social workers, healthcare providers, and educators to support each child's holistic development.
* Keep clear and detailed records, including daily logs, incident reports, and care plans, in line with safeguarding and regulatory standards.
* Contribute to care planning and facilitate transitions in and out of the home.
* Take part in the on-call rota, providing advice or in-person support when required.
* Support day-to-day running of the home through domestic tasks and meal preparation, ensuring a clean, safe, and homely environment.
* Champion education and enrichment, helping children access learning opportunities and engage in meaningful activities.
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience supporting children or young people in a residential care setting.
* Confidence in leading shifts and making decisions in a fast-paced, emotionally demanding environment.
* A strong understanding of safeguarding, child development, and trauma-informed practice.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Willingness to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays.
* Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
