The Team

The team is an integrated Business Intelligence- and Data Warehouse team within the eHealth Department that serves the entire organisation with solutions related to reporting and analytical applications. Our core areas are performance reporting and dashboards and statutory reporting to the Scottish Government.

Our data warehouse is based on Microsoft SQL Server and tools from Insource. For the Business Intelligence delivery, we are using Analysis Services, Reporting Services and Power BI from Microsoft. We are in the process of implementing Microsoft Fabric.

Your Role

As a BI solution developer, you are covering the whole spectrum from business requirements to data- and solution architecture and development. You may also be involved in the ongoing development and operation of our data warehouse. You will build up an extensive knowledge of the data warehouse as well as the operational health care systems and business processes.

From the start we expect that you will be designing and developing solutions that support the reporting and analytics need of the organisation. This can be within the wider EPR Programme (Electronic Patient Record) including a new Radiology Information System, order communications and discharge. You may also be involved in re-thinking and automating analytical tasks for analysts in other departments in NHS Highland. This also involves training, mentoring and expert support in DAX, Data modelling- and processing for analysts across the organisation that are building models in Power BI.

About You

You can discuss complex information requirements with senior non-technical counterparts, and you are able to articulate the data-related challenges and opportunities and come up with constructive solutions. You are also able to question and re-frame requirements as well as converting them into a solution that is visually efficient and appealing but also adheres to a solution architecture that is stable and efficient from a maintenance perspective. It is essential that you can cover the entire spectrum from requirements to development.

As a developer you possess demonstrable experiences and skills with most of the tools that we are using. You can work with the full stack of tools including T-SQL and SSRS and Power BI, DAX and M (Power Query). You are proficient with data warehouse methodologies and concepts as well as relational and multi-dimensional data modelling. Any experience in Microsoft Fabric is also valuable as this will be helpful in our modernisation and transition to the new tools.

You appreciate the advantages of having a data warehouse strategy that provides the foundation for unified use of data across a variety of reporting and dashboard solutions.

Since you will be supporting analysis and statutory reporting in unscheduled and elective care as well as primary care, experience with the data challenges in these areas is important.

It is important that that you have data related experience from the health care sector.
