Job Description:
At Little Miracles, our Specialist Family Support Workers have a varied and flexible job role. The emphasis of this role is to provide holistic, one-to-one support to families caring for a child with a life-limiting condition. This is a highly family-focused role that balances emotional support, advocacy and the delivery of specialist sensory play sessions, ensuring families receive the right support at the right time.
Typical duties will include providing emotional reassurance to parents and carers, accompanying families to hospital and medical appointments, supporting with navigating care systems and funding applications, and creating safe, non-judgmental spaces for families to talk openly. The role also includes planning and delivering support play sessions for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). These may be group sessions or one-to-one, delivered throughout the year, and are designed to be enriching, inclusive and meaningful.
This is a hybrid role involving work in family homes, at hospital visits, in the community, and occasionally from home for planning and administration. You will be fully supported by the Head of Wellbeing Services based at our Head Office in Peterborough and will work closely with the wider Family Support Team, counselling services, volunteers and external professionals to ensure families receive comprehensive, compassionate care. The Specialist Family Support Worker will also be required to respond flexibly to family needs, including crisis situations, while ensuring appropriate records are maintained and referrals are made to other services when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Specialist Family Support Workers will perform the following tasks:
* Providing high-quality emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life-limiting condition.
* Supporting families with hospital visits, appointments and navigating complex systems such as Continuing Health Care funding, benefits and referrals to counselling.
* Planning and delivering inclusive, themed support play sessions for children with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD). These may be group or one-to-one and will run all year round.
* Building trusted, long-term relationships with families, creating safe spaces where they feel understood and supported.
* Responding to crises, offering immediate help and advocating for families where needed.
* Maintaining accurate records and contributing to case studies, monitoring and evaluation.
* Working closely with volunteers, staff, and external professionals to ensure holistic, joined-up support.

Qualifications and Required Experience:
* Experience of working with or supporting families of children with additional needs, disabilities or life-limiting conditions.
* Minimum C grade GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent.
* Strong computer skills and experience working with CRM databases.
* Own transport and the ability to travel to family homes, hospitals and community settings.
Preferable Experience:
* Experience in end-of-life care or bereavement support.
* Previous experience in the third sector.
* Knowledge of local health and social care systems.
Job Types: Part-time, Permanent
Pay: £18,000.00-£20,000.00 per year
