As a senior-level doctor within the Cardiology team, post holders will be expected to be responsible for managing acutely unwell patients, supervising and supporting junior staff and advanced clinical practitioners, and assisting in coordinating patient flow within the department (with support from the Consultant Cardiologist of the Week).
The rota complies with the new Specialty Doctor contract and offers a minimum of 1.25 PA per week of protected core SPA time, some of which is worked flexibly. The role encourages involvement in quality improvement projects and taking a lead role within the department.
We have an established CESR programme, and successful candidates will be eligible to apply for a place in the programme as it becomes available, subject to satisfactory review after one year in post.
We see approximately 70,000 non-elective patients annually and provide on-site services covering most medical and surgical specialties, excluding those typically provided at a tertiary centre. Our well-equipped postgraduate education department is actively involved in training students from various disciplines, including Hull York Medical School.
Our hospital treats the full spectrum of patients, including children, and recently upgraded our helipad for 24/7 use. We are a Trauma Unit with links to the Major Trauma Centre in Hull.
Regarding diversity and inclusion, we are a Disability Confident employer, offering interviews to applicants with a declared disability who meet the minimum criteria. Additional support schemes include the Mindful Employer initiative and support for military reservists.
Scarborough Hospital is undergoing a major £47M upgrade, expanding its Acute, Urgent & Emergency Medical facilities, including a new multi-function clinical space for our innovative Acute Medical Model (AMM). The new unit will also house a state-of-the-art Critical Care & Medical Level 1 space, including coronary care, transforming acute care on the Yorkshire coast.
Located in the historic seaside town of Scarborough, on the beautiful Yorkshire Coast, the hospital serves both local residents and holidaymakers. The town offers excellent outdoor activities, is close to North York Moors National Park, and is well-connected by road and rail, with London less than 3 hours away by train.
We are committed to supporting employees with disabilities or mental health conditions, offering accessible application processes and necessary adjustments. The Trust holds the Gold Award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme and supports Britain's Reservists and Employers.
Benefits include health and wellbeing support, financial schemes, discounts, a relocation package of up to £18,000, and a study leave budget of £3,000 over three years. Further details are available on our website under 'Working for Us'.
