Physiotherapy is an integral part of the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury. Support workers within the physiotherapy team are essential members delivering this service, providing administrative and clinical support to the physiotherapists.
This post involves working alongside physiotherapists with patients following spinal cord injury within the gym environment, providing support aligned to Buckinghamshire Healthcare values of Collaborate, Aspire, Respect and Enable.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting is essential and previous employment within the NHS is desirable.The post is not suitable for qualified physiotherapists.
Opportunities for training and development are available through in service training and appraisal.
Main duties of the job
To contribute to the rehabilitation service delivered by the Physiotherapy team at the NSIC under the guidance and supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist.
·To participate in treatment interventions under the direct or indirect supervision and guidance of qualified therapy staff (as deemed appropriate by the qualified staff), reflecting on results and communicating progress or outcome with supervising qualified therapy staff.
·To undertake manual handling techniques involving patients and/or equipment following appropriate training in line with organisational manual handling policy.
·To assist qualified therapy staff in the preparation of patients for therapy treatment.
1. To support Physiotherapy assistants in the training and delivery of the physiotherapy assistant clinical tasks
2. To co-ordinate and organise the work responsibilities of the Band 2 physiotherapists working in spinal rehabilitation and delegate tasks appropriately

Education, Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
3. Good level of education to GCSE standard. (at least 3 subjects)
4. Level 4 GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
5. Able to demonstrate competence in written and spoken English
6. NVQ level II or III in Health Care or related qualification or relevant experience
Desirable criteria
7. Manual Handling, or First Aid qualification

8. Previous work as a Physiotherapy Assistant or allied profession within the NHS working in rehabilitation environment
9. Experience of working with people with a disability and providing personal care
10. 12 months experience within a customer care (face to face) environment.
11. Demonstratable experience of implementing and following systems to manage equipment
12. Experience of data entry and use of a computer in the work environment
