Summary:
Ares is seeking an EMEA Lead in Enterprise Risk, to join our dedicated Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team in London. Within ERM, we strive to execute sound risk management strategies in support of the firm. To achieve this, we partner broadly across internal stakeholders to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor current and emerging risks. The interaction with numerous groups and the range of projects that ensue provide for a challenging and multi-faceted work environment.
This role will help us administer and continue to expand our ERM program to support local jurisdictions. We are seeking an individual who will have visibility across the organization and who will help us build, implement, and scale the risk identification & controls assessment component. We are looking for an individual whose experience, insights and innovative thinking will elevate our program, who is a strategic communicator, excited to partner with others on and around the team, work cross-functionally with business units and execute on aligned priorities. This position is responsible for collaborating with departments and team members across the organization to develop and implement all components of the firm’s enterprise risk management framework, including our integrated, enterprise-wide approach to building and maintaining a robust risk management feedback loop.
Primary Functions and Essential Responsibilities
1. Coordinate and execute the full lifecycle of the risk identification and assessment process
2. Facilitate and convene relevant governance committees to foster alignment and consistency in risk awareness, ensuring execution of the process
3. Review and challenge self -assessments, including severity and other attributes
4. Review existing risk taxonomy, risk rankings and reporting, to challenge assumptions and highlight risks that may have been missed for inclusion in the risk inventory
5. Coordinate cross-collaboration scenario planning exercises and lead various business resiliency initiatives
6. Liaise with Risk and other Assurance colleagues as needed to ensure robust participation in the risk assessment process
7. Centrally aggregate identified business risks, oversee mitigation plans and track closure of action items
8. Track follow-ups and deliverables and set timing of next steps
9. Review and maintain the risk inventory of relevant risk events
10. Provide independent oversight and an aggregate view of enterprise risks
11. Coordinate with global teams and execute local updates to the Enterprise Risk Management framework
12. Report findings and reporting to senior leadership and relevant governing structures
13. Participate in the ongoing development of KRIs, metrics, dashboards, and other capabilities to analyze enterprise risks
14. Develop an integrated risk reporting model that will facilitate prioritization and transparency
15. Evolve risk aggregation, reporting and emerging risk identification to an ongoing dynamic, forward-looking capability
16. Establish protocols focused on identifying emerging risks to feed the risk and control self-assessments on an ongoing basis
17. Stay informed on industry trends and developments to advance the enterprise risk program
Education:
18. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Risk Management, or a related field from an accredited university
19. Risk Management certifications a plus but not required
Experience and Skills Required:
20. 8+ years of relevant work experience
21. General industry knowledge and experience from a financial services or investment / wealth management organization
22. Prior experience in enterprise or operational risk management
23. Knowledge of local risk practices and aligned with regulatory expectations
24. Strong communication and leadership skills
25. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
26. Proficiency with Salesforce and visual analytics tools such as Tableau and PowerBI is a plus but not required
