Overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic part-time cook to join our Catering team, working between Kingsway Hospital and the Radbourne Unit, Royal Derby Hospital. The role involves providing quality freshly cooked meals to patients, staff and visitors, along with preparing sandwiches, salads, hot and cold puddings and general cleaning duties to maintain essential Hygiene Standards in a busy kitchen.

You should be able to work flexible hours to provide cover for colleagues during annual leave or sickness, at our Radbourne and Kingsway Hospital sites. You will prepare and cook nutritional, well-balanced meals from fresh on a daily basis and identify allergens in foods prepared for patients, staff and visitors.


Responsibilities

* Prepare and cook nutritional, well-balanced meals from fresh for patients, staff and visitors on a daily basis.
* Prepare sandwiches, salads, hot and cold puddings and perform general cleaning duties to maintain hygiene standards in a busy kitchen.
* Work flexible hours to provide cover for colleagues during annual leave or sickness, at Radbourne and Kingsway sites.
* Identify allergens in foods being prepared for patients, staff and visitors; communicate special diet information to customers.
* Understand special dietary needs and follow texture-modified diets under IDDSI guidelines where required; ensure correct portions for consistency, flavour and texture.
* Monitor portion control and manage food waste.
* Ensure all Health, Safety and Food Hygiene Legislation is observed and assist with cleaning schedules for catering areas and equipment.
* Work at other units beyond the regular rostered pattern as requested (Radbourne or Kingsway).
* Deal with ward/customer liaison effectively and courteously, including telephone and in-person interactions.
* Take food orders by telephone using the call order system and cook food as requested; keep all working areas clean and equipment sanitized.
* Complete activities prescribed in Assured Safe Catering procedures and follow instructions from the Catering Supervisor or Manager.
* Be capable of working alone in the supervisor’s absence and carry out any other duties within the kitchen as requested by the Catering Supervisor or Manager.
* Complete staff surveys and uphold Trust values; report any mechanical, electrical or structural defects to the supervisor.


Qualifications/Requirements

* Ability to work on your own initiative and to work in a team at multiple sites (Radbourne or Kingsway).
* Knowledge of allergen identification and ability to communicate dietary information to staff and customers.
* Experience following recipes and preparing portions to ensure quality, taste and texture.
* Understanding of Health, Safety and Food Hygiene legislation and the ability to assist with cleaning schedules.
* Willingness to adapt to different duties within the kitchen as required by the Catering Supervisor or Manager.
