Summary
The job holder will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, harvesting, and cultivating of the establishment's gardens, ensuring protected cropping is grown and harvested to the highest standards, and assessing accredited vocational qualifications to prisoners.

Responsibilities, Activities, and Duties
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities, and duties:
1. Maintain correct field-scale soil husbandry, ensuring all stages of crop development are followed in accordance with good horticultural practice.
2. Maintain the growing plant/crop to ensure optimum development and/or cropping, ensuring that the plant's needs are fully met.
3. Maintain effective biological pest control measures and any necessary chemical crop protection programmes.
4. Resolve prisoner work issues, setting tasks to match their ability while ensuring safety and production are maintained.
5. Ensure produce grown on-site is prepared and packaged appropriately, considering labelling, grading, and presentation.
6. Maintain sports fields as per the plan with the Farms and Gardens Manager and PE Department.
7. Carry out preventative pest control measures across the area of responsibility.
Additional instructor tasks include:
1. Participate in the selection process of prisoners for the workshop/area of work.
2. Induct prisoners and train them in Health and Safety, COSHH, machinery, and tools usage.
3. Support prisoners, tailoring training to individual needs.
4. Set work schedules, manage targets/quality standards, and deliver contractual commitments.
5. Assess and evaluate prisoners' skills up to national qualification standards.
6. Supervise prisoners' discipline and performance within the workshop/area of work.
7. Maintain communications via radio in accordance with security strategies.
8. Complete security forms and reports, and contribute to incentive reports.
9. Conduct security scans of prisoners attending and leaving workshops.
10. Log attendance, approve prisoner hours, wages, and record piece work.
11. Check tools and machinery, log faults, and undertake maintenance.
12. Contribute to prisoner reports, regime monitoring, and training records.
13. Participate in safety risk assessments and material requests.
14. Review product development to maintain output and variety.
15. Participate in self-audits and meet service delivery indicators.
16. Complete administrative activities to support workshop operations.
The above duties are not exhaustive; additional tasks may be assigned as necessary. The job requires confidence in spoken English or Welsh (Wales).

Essential Experience
* Supervisory experience
* Knowledge of soil and crop husbandry, crop protection, and produce preparation
* Experience with industrial machinery and equipment
Technical Requirements
* Level 3 qualification in horticulture or equivalent, or training within two years
* PA2 and PA6 pesticide qualifications
* Knowledge of health and safety and COSHH regulations
* Possibility of becoming an accredited assessor
* Full UK driving license for machinery and prisoner instruction duties
