Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the strategic oversight of CYP services that are delivered Trust wide. The Post holder will advise and support the operational development of nursing and AHPs regarding quality and clinical practice for children and young people across the organisation.
The Lead Nurse will work collaboratively with the Associate Directors of Nursing, Head Nurses/Professionals Leads/Matrons to provide assurance to the Executive Team and Board of Directors that robust systems of governance and performance management are in place and that high quality children and young people led services are being developed and delivered across CHFT.
As part of the nursing team, the post holder will support the Associate Directors of Nursing and contribute to developing the strategic direction and implementation of the CYP nursing strategy and CYP transformation plan.
This role will co-ordinate the monitoring of quality performance against Children’s National Standards and monitored through the Children’s Transformation Plan and the Children’s Board. This will include supporting the risk management function in relation to children and young people’s pathways of care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Champion the CYP agenda across the organisation and support performance monitoring and reporting arrangements to demonstrate progress within the divisions.
Support the Associate Directors of Nursing in the planning and management of projects and the implementation of change across the Trust, ensuring professional relationships are maintained and multi-professional relationships encouraged.
Act as lead for Children and Young People initiatives across CHFT to support the Senior Nursing Team Nursing in embedding and developing the trust Children’s CYP 5-year strategy.
Support the Associate Directors of Nursing to ensure that the professional contribution of nurses and midwives throughout the Trust are firmly aligned to the achievement of trust wide objectives.
Act as a trust wide Children’s nursing representative in multi-professional and managerial forums, both internally and externally.
Support the implementation of the trust’s governance and risk management strategies and support the division with the monitoring and maintenance of the divisional risk and compliance registers.
Support the divisions in preparing for assessments and inspections from external bodies such as NHSE, CQC, SEND.
Contribute to workforce planning/profiling initiatives to ensure there is an optimal Children’s nursing workforce which reflects good quality care and value for money within their division.
Act as an advisor on the Children’s workforce models
Establish and maintain effective communication links with the divisional teams and wider organisation.
Participate in the wider trust organisational development programmes taking a lead role where appropriate.
To monitor and ensure compliance with local, regional and national risk standards, Care Quality Commission including any recommendations from inspections and service reviews.
To provide specialist advice on clinical risk and support all wards, departments and clinical areas in the Children’s Directorate and wider organisation
To develop clear links and participate in divisional forums/clinical groups leading on the quality agenda for Children and Young People.
Disseminate information to clinical and management teams regarding quality performance and improvement.
To support and advise on incidents and investigations as required within the PSIRF framework that involve Children and Young People
To support the investigation of serious complaints and ensure learning within the divisions and across the trust.
To support safeguarding investigations across the Trust and provide a key link to safeguarding operational groups.
To participate in the Trust’s duty rota for Matrons and senior nurses, including some weekend working.
To participate in Trust wide initiatives to support achieving the Trust’s objectives as appropriate.
Person specification
QUALIFICATIONS / TRAINING
* Specialist CYP nursing knowledge and experience equivalent to a master’s level or working towards.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & EXPERTISE
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development across the last 3 years.
* Significant proven managerial experience at a senior level within Children’s nursing leading and managing/leading a number of clinical areas and/or departments.
* A proven track record of leadership, quality improvement, patient experience and organisational change.
* Evidence of forging and nurturing partnerships and collaborative relationships.
* Experience of supporting a large, complex professional workforce.
* Experience of quality and risk management, to include experience of learning from incidents and embedding change
* Experience of leading on and contributing to the strategic development of the CYP agenda in line with local and national priorities
* Involvement in Trust strategic development and implementation
* Participation in audit and promotion of evidence-base practice
* Experience of influencing others to embrace and embed the CYP Strategy
