About the role
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and highly capable Deputy Director of English who can help lead one of the most important subject areas in the school, supporting the Director of English in securing excellent teaching, strong outcomes and a culture of high ambition across the department. This role offers the opportunity to shape curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and intervention in a department that has a profound influence on pupils’ confidence, achievement and life chances.
The successful candidate will combine excellent classroom practice with organisational strength and relational credibility needed to support subject leadership. They will play a key role in maintaining momentum, developing colleagues, responding to priorities and ensuring that pupils experience consistently strong English teaching. This is an ideal role for an existing English teacher ready to step into formal leadership or for a current middle leader seeking a broader, more strategic role.
