This opportunity is particularly attractive for public sector procurement professionals who enjoy their work in local government, higher education or the NHS, but are increasingly looking for broader exposure, stronger progression and more influence than traditional structures often allow.
A well-established, procurement-led organisation is strengthening its indirect procurement capability and is seeking an Indirect Procurement Manager to lead a small team and own a high-impact portfolio of indirect spend. The organisation operates at scale, works with complex stakeholders and places procurement at the centre of decision-making.
You'll take ownership of end-to-end indirect procurement across FM, Capex and Professional Services, operating within public procurement regulations while having far greater scope to shape outcomes than many public sector roles typically allow. This is a role that blends leadership, delivery and strategic influence.
Based in Birmingham, the organisation operates a hybrid working model, typically with two to three days per week in the office.
What makes this role stand out
1. True ownership of major indirect procurement categories with visibility at senior level
2. Leadership responsibility, managing and developing a capable, motivated procurement team
3. The chance to apply your public sector procurement expertise in a broader, more commercial environment
4. Real influence over how indirect procurement is delivered, improved and evolved
5. A platform for clear progression beyond traditional public sector career ceilings
This role will suit someone who
6. Has strong public sector procurement experience from a council, university, NHS or similar environment
7. Has previously managed or led a small procurement team
8. Wants more autonomy, exposure and career momentum
9. Is open to a move that offers long-term opportunity rather than a short-term change
Why consider this now
The organisation is continuing to invest in its procurement function, with a clear focus on leadership capability and long-term development. For public sector procurement professionals who want to keep purpose, gain breadth and accelerate their career, this is a genuinely compelling next step.
