Non‑Medical Appointment - Executive and Senior Manager Grade G: £130,912 - £173,906 per annum (pro rata for part time) (as per PCS (ESM) 2025/3)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a new Director of Public Health. NHSGGC is Scotland’s largest health system, serving a core population of 1.2 million people and providing specialist services to 2.2 million people across the West of Scotland. With an annual revenue budget of approximately £4.65 billion and a workforce of over 42,000 staff, NHSGGC plays a pivotal role in improving population health, tackling inequalities and delivering safe, effective, person‑centred care.
This appointment provides a critical opportunity to provide Executive leadership for public health, ensuring continuity of statutory public health functions while maintaining strategic momentum across the system. We are seeking an outstanding, credible and influential public health leader to undertake this key Executive Director role at the heart of system leadership.
The Role
The Director of Public Health will provide strategic public health leadership and expert advice across the full spectrum of public health activity, including health protection, emergency preparedness, population health improvement and the reduction of health inequalities.
As Director Of Public Health, You Will
* Be an Executive Director of the NHSGGC Board and a full member of the Corporate Management Team
* Provide Executive‑level leadership for public health across NHSGGC
* Maintain and assure delivery of statutory public health responsibilities, including health protection and emergency response
* Provide strategic advice to the Board, Chief Executive and Executive Team
* Lead and support the Public Health Directorate, including oversight of multidisciplinary teams and resources
* Support and advise six Health and Social Care Partnerships and Integration Joint Boards
* Maintain oversight of vaccination and population screening programmes
* Act as Board lead for key public health partnerships, including the Glasgow Centre for Population Health
* Strengthen partnership working across local authorities, Public Health Scotland, the Scottish Government, and the third and voluntary sector
* Provide visible leadership to public health teams during a period of organisational transition
* Ensure continued focus on population health improvement, health protection and reducing health inequalities
