Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 2 year fixed term Medical Secretary (Gastroenterology) based at University Hospital Ayr.


Hours

Monday to Friday – 36 hours per week with flexible working hours.

This post is offered on a fixed term basis for 6 months.


What you will do

* Provide a comprehensive medical secretarial service to the Consultant Gastroenterologist and their clinical team, organise Consultant's workload and serve as the main point of contact between clinical staff and service users.
* Provide a medical secretarial service to the clinical or sub specialty team serving the patient population of Ayrshire and Arran through the provision of specialist in‑patient, day case and out‑patient services.
* Provide advice to medical and paramedical personnel, patients and other relevant parties on matters pertinent to individual units.
* Liaise with GP’s, patients, relatives and other relevant parties to ensure up‑to‑date information on episodes of patient care and future planning of clinical treatment.
* Liaise with professional staff in other disciplines and community settings to share best practice for care and follow‑up of related conditions in individual units.


Qualifications and Experience

* Relevant secretarial qualification, e.g. AMSPAR Diploma for Medical Secretaries, RSA or Scotvec qualification and equivalent secretarial experience.
* Medical Terminology Certificate.
* Excellent standard of English language.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
* Ability to develop an acquired knowledge of medical terminology.
* Demonstrate ability to manage time, prioritise workload and be flexible in approach to working practices.

When considering if a post meets the salary threshold for sponsorship, please note the salary advertised is based on a full‑time contract and must be pro‑rated for part‑time positions. Sponsorship is not guaranteed and is assessed on a case‑by‑case basis following interview and at the commencement of pre‑employment checks.
