Overview of the role:
JCB designs and manufactures a range of earthmoving machines that are packed with technology and sold worldwide. Depending on experience an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Development Engineer or Senior Development Engineer to join our Wheeled Loader and Telemaster Engineering team and play a key role in developing our future product range. Reporting to the Test and Development Manager, the successful candidate will join a hands-on and focussed team with a real passion for the products we make and a desire to continually evolve and innovate.
Your Responsibilities as a Development Engineer:
As a Senior Development Engineer, you will:
· Have ownership and responsibility for completion of testing and development activities on new product designs, systems, and components from project beginnings right through to Engineering Sign Off.
· Analyse test data with a rigorous, yet pragmatic approach.
· Present to both colleagues, senior management, and external suppliers.
· Assist with the development of software and tuning of associated parameters to optimise machine control systems.
· Conduct machine performance and efficiency testing.
· Be required to design, commission, and operate test rigs
· Write timely and accurate test and development reports
· Mentoring graduate / apprentices within the team
· Progress development and production of new and existing test procedures as well as customer acceptance standards.
· Have responsibility of planning and prioritising of project deliverables
· Play an active role in managing the daily and medium-term activities within our experimental workshop, including prototype builds.
About you:
· Degree / HND in Mechanical Engineering or have equivalent experience
· Experience in the design/development of off highway vehicles including familiarity with test processes for heavy-duty machinery / off-highway equipment.
· Good working knowledge of drivetrain, hydraulics, and electrical/electronic systems
· Capable of a high standard of technical writing
· Demonstrate a sound grasp of engineering principles
· Strong communication skills and be comfortable working independently and as a member of a team.
· A positive ‘can-do’ attitude, coupled with a sense of urgency and desire to succeed
Desirable skills:
· Experience using ‘on vehicle’ Data Acquisition tools
· Strong Microsoft Office skill
