Responsibilities
* Deliver a high standard of evidence-based inpatient nursing care in the designated care group in partnership with the team, the service users, and where appropriate their family.
* Act as primary nurse in the assessment of needs and organising of care.
* Co‑ordinate shifts and provide supervision for support workers and students.
* Work within a team of nurses and other professionals committed to the delivery of a quality service.
* Adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, to meet the needs of the service over a 24‑hour period.
* Take charge of a designated clinical area and deputise as appropriate.
* Represent the Ward Manager and/or care team at appropriate forums and disseminate information as required.
* Represent the clinical team perspective at multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews of patient care.
* Be an active participant in the multidisciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilising appropriate assessments.
* Ensure that a comprehensive mental and physical health assessment is completed on admission.
* Ensure that all patients have a physical health and mental health care plan and MEWS monitoring in place, ensuring regular review of both.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify physical healthcare interventions/treatments in relation to acute and chronic physical health conditions and measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention(s).
* Provide a highly specialised range of physical healthcare interventions and knowledge of evidence‑based models of practice.
* Take appropriate action when working with vulnerable adults and children following safeguarding procedures, liaising with appropriate agencies.
* Act promptly and safely by prioritising patients' physical healthcare needs and coordinating related care.
* Ensure participation in clinical supervision.
* Have a basic knowledge of the MHA (1983/2007).
* Have knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act (2005).
* Promote respect for diversity and combat stigma and exclusion.
* Communicate with and support relatives and carers and actively promote their involvement with the patients' physical care.
* Be aware of the physical safety and security of the building, reporting any problems.
* Administer medication within NMC guidelines and Trust’s Medicines Code.
