Hours: Full Time 1.0FTE (flexible to meet operational and event requirements)
Purpose: To lead and manage the Technical Services Department, ensuring all campus technical operations, facilities, and creative resources function effectively and safely. The Manager oversees staffing, budgets, and compliance; plans maintenance and improvements; and collaborates with other departments to deliver a high-quality student and staff experience.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide strategic and operational leadership for all Technical Services activities.
* Line-manage Senior Technician, Technicians, and Operatives; manage rotas, leave, performance reviews, and development plans.
* Lead day-to-day workflow of the technical team; delegate tasks to the team.
* Develop and maintain departmental budgets, procurement, and asset management.
* Plan and schedule maintenance, refurbishment, and compliance inspections.
* Oversee event logistics and ensure technical support for academic and external activities.
* Liaise with Campus Manager, IT Department, Industry Link, Events and Outreach, and Timetabling to coordinate campus works, risk assessments, and contractor visits.
* Maintain up-to-date policies and procedures for H&S, equipment use, and technical standards.
* Report regularly to senior management on department performance, compliance, and improvement plans.
* Promote consistency of technical operations across campuses by sharing best practice with peer Managers.
* Lead or support long-term projects such as room redesigns, equipment upgrades, and new-technology integration.
* Ensure building is secure at all times; consistently completing a thorough building open and/or building close procedure.
Essential Skills & Attributes
* Demonstrable experience managing a technical or facilities department within a creative or educational environment.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
* Broad technical knowledge covering studio, live, and AV systems.
* Strong understanding of budgeting, procurement, and asset management.
* Proven ability to manage health & safety and regulatory compliance.
* Collaborative, proactive approach with commitment to service excellence.
* Competent with admin tools (Helpdesk, Google Workspace).
Desirable Skills & Attributes
* IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
* Experience managing refurbishment or capital projects.
* Knowledge of GDPR and data security.
* First Aid and Fire Marshal trained.
* Full UK driving licence
