As a Materials Manager, you will provide leadership and management oversight & support to the daily operations of all supply chain functions at Nuffield Health Hospitals, either as a solo or multisite operation (dependent on location). You will serve as the key lead between the Central supply chain and hospital leadership teams, ensuring effective communication internally, across the hospital, and within your department. You will also support the development of individuals and the team’s knowledge and skills.
The MM will lead the on-site supply chain department(s), including inventory management, vendor relationship management, and managing supply expenses. You will be responsible for implementing best practices and continuous improvement across the hospitals you oversee.
Main duties of the role include:
1. Ensuring goods and services are purchased to meet hospital requirements, in line with Nuffield Health’s policies and procedures.
2. Developing the department with accountability for achieving cost management and providing accurate and timely management information.
3. Planning and developing the department in alignment with hospital business planning, improvement, and development.
4. Being the face of Supply Chain and a key contact at sites.
5. Achieving Supply Chain objectives such as target inventory levels and compliance.
6. Conducting audits and reviews of the department’s performance, recording findings, and addressing issues promptly.
7. Implementing Nuffield Health policies and procedures within the department, ensuring compliance with standards and procedures.
8. Developing, implementing, monitoring, and reviewing departmental processes, standards, policies, and protocols.
9. Engaging with senior stakeholders such as Heads of Departments, Hospital Directors, and Finance Business Partners.
10. Driving operational excellence and supporting the delivery of divisional strategy locally.
11. Building customer trust through relationship development and change management expertise.
12. Meeting regularly with departments to discuss changes related to clinical practice and the wider supply chain.
13. Ensuring best practice in inventory management, including stock counts according to policy.
14. Liaising with the Procurement department to manage supplier activities.
15. Identifying and addressing risk management issues in collaboration with Finance and Regional Managers.
16. Supporting cost reduction and efficiency initiatives.
17. Maintaining accurate records relevant to the area of responsibility, managed and reported in accordance with procedures.
18. Investigating and resolving invoice issues promptly.
19. Participating in relevant business processes, projects, or initiatives impacting the area of responsibility.
Qualifications and experience:
* Degree level or working towards a Supply Chain qualification (desirable).
* Experience in Supply Chain within a multisite company (advantageous).
* Leadership and management experience, including team leadership with a focus on finance and cost control KPIs.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and communicate clearly with hospital leadership.
* Experience with Materials Management inventory systems (advantageous).
* Problem-solving skills and the ability to see issues through to resolution.
