Job Title: Nurse (NMC Registered)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week; part‑time may also be considered at 30 or 36 hours per week.

Location: Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice offers an outstanding opportunity for a registered nurse to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based paediatric palliative care within a supportive, multidisciplinary team. The role supports babies, children and young people across the hospice and, where required, in community settings.


Responsibilities

* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care, taking responsibility for clinical decision‑making and ensuring care is evidence‑based and outcome‑focused.
* Develop, review and contribute to advance care plans in partnership with families and the multidisciplinary team.
* Lead aspects of care delivery during a shift, contributing to the safe running of the clinical area.
* Provide day‑to‑day clinical leadership and role‑model high‑quality care.
* Supervise, support and develop Nursing Associates, students and early‑career employees, ensuring safe delegation and competence.
* Coordinate and lead the delivery of care for children with complex, dynamic and technology‑dependent needs.
* Interpret clinical information and act on deterioration, using professional judgment within scope of practice.
* Delegate care appropriately to Nursing Associates and care staff, ensuring safe oversight and supervision.
* Ensure all care is delivered in line with policies, SOPs and best practice, challenging and improving practice where required.
* Deliver and oversee care after death, ensuring dignity, respect and family support.
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous clinical records and ensure high standards of documentation across the team.
* Contribute to shift coordination, escalating concerns relating to staffing, acuity or safety.
* Foster a positive team culture, supporting learning and reflective practice.
* Actively contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
* Work towards the ability to lead shifts in the absence of a Team Leader or experienced nurse.


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse on the NMC register.
* Registered Children’s Nurse on the NMC register (or equivalent).
* Professional development and ongoing NMC revalidation.
* Experience or qualification as a practice supervisor or assessor (desirable).


Experience

* Evidence of using clinical judgement to interpret clinical data to inform decision making.
* Experience in a professional, multi‑disciplinary team.
* Experience delivering nursing care to children and young people.
* Experience providing paediatric palliative care.
* Experience delivering a wide range of clinical skills.
* Experience contributing to an inclusive workplace culture.
* Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience.


Skills & Knowledge

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to adapt style as required.
* Good time‑management and the ability to prioritise care for children.
* Ability to work well in a team and on own initiative.
* Knowledge and understanding of children’s and young adults’ health needs in a racially and culturally diverse population.
* Ability to delegate tasks appropriately.
* Strong organisational and clinical decision‑making skills.

Other Requirements

* Legally entitled to work in the United Kingdom.
* Full driving licence with access to a reliable vehicle and business insurance cover.
* Able to travel extensively to meet the needs of all children, young people and their families.
* Ability to safeguard children, young people and adults at risk, including understanding and acting on safeguarding and child protection concerns.
* Discretion and confidentiality regarding patient information, as per professional standards.
