Speech & Language Therapist - Adult Acute Inpatients

The closing date is 01 May 2026

Join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy team to deliver dysphagia and communication services to inpatients across our hospital sites.

You will have Band 6 and Band 7 support.

You will work on a team that is supportive and dedicated.

* Specialist Clinics: Joint Voice Disorders, Hoarse Voice Assessment, SLT-led nasendoscopy, FEES, and videofluoroscopy

Main duties of the job

* Independently prioritise assess, treat, and manage dysphagic and communication impaired inpatients across a variety of wards, including AMU, Critical Care, Frailty, Dementia, ENT, Surgical, Cardiology, Orthopaedic and Respiratory.
* Deliver appropriate training and education to the wider MDT as deemed necessary
* Contribute to service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.

Person Specification


Knowledge & Experience

* Experience of working with adult acquired communication disorders
* Experience of working in an adult acute inpatient setting
* Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
* Post-basic Dysphagia Experience


Qualifications & Training

* Professional specific degree i.e. BSC speech sciences or Masters in medical sciences
* Member of the Healthcare Professions Council
* Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Post basic Dysphagia Training/Qualification

* Demonstrate evidence of ability to communicate complex conditions, and related information from assessments, to patients, carers and multidisciplinary team members and other professionals
* Show evidence of excellence written and verbal skills
* Demonstrate ability to co-ordinate, prioritise and work co-operatively and harmoniously within a variety of teams.
* Show evidence of excellent timekeeping and caseload management and patient flow
* Demonstrate self awareness and reflection
