We have a great opportunity for a General Manager to manage existing contracts and projects within the street lighting and highways electrical sector in the Northern part of the UK; along with identifying new opportunities.
Key activities
1. Leadership and Strategic Planning : The GM provides leadership to the team, setting a vision for the company and developing strategic plans to guide the organisation toward its goals. They are responsible for making critical business decisions and setting long-term objectives.
2. Operations Management : They oversee the day-to-day operations of their contracts, ensuring that the business runs smoothly. This includes managing (but not limited to) Redcar and Cleveland and Cheshire West and Chester contracts, and ensuring that the company meets its performance and efficiency targets.
3. Financial Management : The GM is responsible for the financial health of their contracts. They oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and analysis for their contracts.
4. Human Resources: They are involved in key aspects of human resources, including hiring, training, and performance management. The GM works to create a positive work environment, foster professional development, and ensure that their contracts have the talent it needs to achieve its goals.
5. Sales and Marketing: the GM will work closely with the BDM for the North. They will work to drive revenue growth, develop new work streams and partners in line with forecasted budget growth
6. Customer and Stakeholder Relations : The GM acts as a key point of contact for stakeholders, including customers, investors, and business partners. They ensure that the company maintains strong relationships with these groups, addressing concerns and leveraging opportunities.
7. Compliance and Risk Management : They ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements. The GM also oversees risk management, identifying potential risks to the organisation and implementing strategies to mitigate them.
8. Innovation and Improvement : The GM encourages innovation and continuous improvement within the organisation. They seek out opportunities for the company to grow and evolve, adapting to changing market conditions and customer needs.
9. Reporting and Communication : They are responsible for reporting on their contracts performance to the Senior Leadership Team. The GM ensures that all communication within the organisation is clear and effective, fostering a culture of transparency and collaboration
Skills, qualifications & experience
10. Industry Knowledge: A deep understanding of Highway electrical sector with PFI experience.
11. Leadership and Management Skills: Strong leadership abilities are essential, including people management, strategic thinking, decision-making, and the ability to inspire and motivate employees
12. Financial Acumen: a strong grasp of financial management principles, including budgeting, financial planning and analysis, and understanding financial reports.
13. Operational Knowledge: Understanding of operational management and the ability to streamline processes for efficiency and effectiveness is important. This includes knowledge of supply chain management, production, and service delivery.
14. Sales and Marketing: understand the fundamentals of sales and marketing, how they drive business growth, and how to align them with the overall strategy of the company.
15. Human Resources: Knowledge of HR management practices, including recruitment, training, performance management,
16. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively convey vision, strategies, and expectations to all levels of the organisation and to stakeholders outside the company
