We are looking for an experienced Lead Game Designer with outstanding leadership and people management skills to lead our talented team on our forthcoming brand‑new IP, Alien Deathstorm.
The role includes guiding Game Designers, motivating the team, and delivering a high‑quality gameplay experience in line with the project direction. The position can be based at any of our studios in Oxford or Warwick, offers a relocation package, and allows for hybrid work options.
Responsibilities
* Lead & inspire a team of Game Designers using best‑practice people management techniques.
* Proactively manage team performance and professional development through performance reviews.
* Collaborate with Design Directors to balance creative vision with production realities.
* Communicate and collaborate with other disciplines to deliver the creative vision on time.
* Oversee the work of a project design team and mentor designers in all aspects of their role.
* Regularly review the team's work against the design brief and provide actionable feedback for improvements.
* Collaborate with Production to schedule and plan delivery throughout the project lifecycle.
* Verify design quality, give feedback, and suggest improvements to fit technical constraints and artistic direction.
* Plan and conduct gameplay evaluations with the Design Director, providing feedback to fine‑tune the game.
* Ensure correct documentation workflows and processes are followed.
* Act as an active mentor and role model, maintaining morale and fostering a creative atmosphere.
Requirements
* Extensive knowledge of people‑management best practices.
* Broad experience in a range of game‑design specialties such as 3Cs, AI, and economy.
* Willingness and ability to deliver high‑quality results using the required tools and processes.
* Expertise in the video‑game development process, including timely prototyping and iteration.
* Excellent knowledge of production pipelines.
* Experience in Action and/or Sandbox games is advantageous.
