Alongside your work, you'll study towards a Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering earning a BEng (Hons) with our university partner. This is a 4‑5‑year programme including end point assessment (EPA). As an apprentice you will work 40 hours per week with time split between site visits, office work and university block placements. This role will be based in Birmingham and starts September 2026.
Responsibilities
* Learn to contribute to outline and detailed design work, independently (with supervision) and as part of a collaborative team, within agreed timescales.
* Develop the ability to gather, analyse and report on technical information to support project delivery.
* Understand client specifications by applying project requirements in line with relevant standards.
* Help with technical tasks that match current skills and knowledge, with support to grow capabilities.
* Work with guidance and gradually take on more responsibility as experience grows.
* Carry out site visits, surveys and inspections, gaining practical insight into how projects come together.
* Prepare and review feasibility studies, assessments and technical reports, ensuring they meet Avove's standards and procedures.
* Prepare and review design approaches, calculations, drawings and documentation.
This opportunity would be a great fit if you're confident using digital tools like Microsoft Office and enjoy working with others. We're looking for someone who communicates clearly, stays organised, and pays attention to detail. You'll need to be comfortable working in a team and able to take initiative when working independently. Eligibility
You will need the following to be eligible for this apprenticeship:
* Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at a grade 4 or above.
* 3 A Levels at grades BBC or higher, with Maths mandatory. General Studies is not accepted.
* Or BTEC DMM minimum – at least a merit in both Maths and Further Maths units. Acceptable courses are Civil Engineering, Aerospace, Construction, and Mechanical Engineering.
* A driving licence is a bonus. If you are currently learning to drive, we may support financially towards this, dependent on meeting our criteria.
What a Day Could Look Like
We give all our apprentices the equivalent of one day a week to dedicate to studies and time to attend training with your apprenticeship provider.
