Ready to lead, innovate and make a real impact? East Riding Pension Fund (ERPF) is seeking a forward-thinking Principal Pensions Officer to work 15 hours per week to help lead and develop the Financial Control and Pensions Payroll functions within our pensions administration team.

About ERPF

ERPF, based in Goole, administers the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) for more than 340 employers and supports over 130,000 members. Our recently restructured administration team of 75 professionals is committed to delivering an outstanding service to members, employers and other stakeholders, and to continually improving how we work.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity to join us part-time and work alongside the existing Principal Pensions Officer, sharing responsibility for our Financial Control and Pensions Payroll teams.

You will help maintain and strengthen robust internal financial controls across the pensions administration service. You will lead teams responsible for reconciling pension fund income and expenditure, producing accurate financial information for accounting purposes, and ensuring the monthly pensioner payroll is paid accurately and in line with regulations.

As a member of the Office Management Team, you will also contribute to the wider management and strategic direction of ERPF, including service planning, risk management, and key areas of administration and governance.

Key Responsibilities

You will help deliver an excellent service within the Financial Control and Pensions Payroll teams, including:

1. Overseeing the reconciliation of income and expenditure.
2. Ensuring payroll calculations are accurate and compliant.
3. Authorising and releasing the monthly pensioner payroll.
4. Managing overpayment recovery and maintaining effective internal financial controls.
5. Submitting data on time for HEAT, FRS/IAS and other statutory reporting.
6. Meeting targets and deadlines in line with service plans and performance indicators.
7. Leading and supporting key projects and process improvements.
8. Liaising with auditors and implementing improvements based on findings.
9. Line-managing, supervising and coaching Senior Pensions Officers and team members.

Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for a proactive leader who enjoys improving services and can motivate and develop others.

You will have a strong working knowledge of LGPS regulations and wider pensions legislation, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. You will be comfortable responding to regulatory change and evolving processes, and able to manage competing priorities while keeping stakeholders informed.

You will bring a sound understanding of reconciliations, income and expenditure monitoring, and financial control processes. You will be organised, resilient and deadline-driven, able to plan ahead and keep teams on track through competing demands.
