About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, organised, and reliable Science Technician to join our busy secondary school science department. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a practical, hands-on environment and supporting high-quality teaching and learning in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
The successful candidate will play a vital role in preparing practical experiments, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a safe and well-organised laboratory environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare, set up, and clear away practical experiments and demonstrations
* Maintain laboratory equipment, apparatus, and materials
* Ensure safe storage and handling of chemicals in line with COSHH regulations
* Carry out risk assessments and maintain health & safety documentation
* Support teachers during practical lessons when required
* Monitor stock levels and order supplies
* Dispose of waste safely and appropriately
* Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
* Assist with exam practical preparations
Essential Experience & Skills
* Previous experience working in a school science department or laboratory environment
* Knowledge of health & safety procedures, including COSHH
* Understanding of safe handling and storage of chemicals and equipment
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to prioritise workload and work independently
* Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
* Basic IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office for record keeping)
Desirable Experience
* Science-related qualification (Level 3 or above)
* Experience supporting practical lessons at KS3, KS4 or KS5
* First Aid training
* Experience using CLEAPSS guidance
