Job summary
The successful candidate will work closely with Biochemistry Manager, Immunology Manager and the Consultant Pathologists to deliver a quality-driven, safe, cost effective, timely, responsive and customer focused Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology (the Service).
This Senior Biomedical Scientist post offers an exciting opportunity for BMS's to further develop their specialist knowledge and skills in Clinical Biochemistry as we are an IBMS registered training facility committed to education, training and clinical excellence.
If you are shortlisted for an interview, this will take place on site due to practical assessment/presentation. We will not be able to support remote interviews.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for supervising the Clinical Biochemistry area and assist in the development of staff within a progressive department where participation in developing our service is actively encouraged.
You should be HCPC registered with an appropriate MSc, IBMS HSD and/or be FIBMS and well versed in the workings of a routine clinical chemistry laboratory. You must have UK NHS Clinical Biochemistry/Immunology laboratory experience. You will also need to be enthusiastic and highly motivated, computer literate and familiar with working to UKAS standards.
The successful candidate may be expected to participate in a rota which provides 24/7 cover for the Clinical Biochemistry service.

Qualifications
Essential
1. HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist
2. Specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry and/or Immunology
3. IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma (Clinical Biochemistry and/or Immunology) / MSc in Clinical Biochemistry and/or Immunology / FIBMS status
4. Evidence of on-going CPD

5. IBMS Membership
6. Any other relevant qualification such as a training certificate, ECDL

7. Sound knowledge of Clinical Biochemistry and/or Immunology practise underpinned by theoretical and practical experience
8. Competence and problem solving in an automated environment
9. Awareness of current professional issues
10. Familiarity with ISO15189 systems and standards
11. Broad understanding of Quality Control and good Quality Management and Audit knowledge
12. Good practical knowledge of health and safety issues including COSHH, fire regulations and risk assessments.
