Overview
Mechanical Fitter (Bioresources) – Water Utility Company based in the Yorkshire region of England. This permanent, full-time role is part of the Maintenance Team within the Bio-Resource South business area. It is a mobile position in the South Yorkshire region; your home location will determine the area you cover.
Location: South Yorkshire. Work type: Permanent. You will work 37 hours per week. Out-of-hours, weekend working, and bank holidays will be required as part of a structured standby rota. Once fully trained you will be assessed for working on your own and you will be required to participate in an out-of-hours standby rota which may include evenings, weekends, and overnight callouts; flexibility outside core hours is required.
What We Do
We provide essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire region, ensuring clean and safe drinking water and responsible wastewater management 24/7, 365 days a year. Bioresources are a key part of meeting customer and regulator expectations as environmental legislation and investment increase.
Responsibilities
* Undertake maintenance of Yorkshire Water’s Electrical and Mechanical assets across water and wastewater treatment and pumping installations at Bio-Resource sites.
* Deliver Planned & Reactive maintenance as part of a Maintenance Team; respond to emergency calls, both in and out of hours (on-call rota); work mobile to deliver improved asset reliability.
* Work unsupervised in remote geographic locations, manage and prioritise your own workload, and build relationships with operational customers, colleagues, suppliers, and contract partners.
* Adhere to Health and Safety policies and actively identify hazards, provide mitigation, and report onto the hazard database.
* Supervise approved Contract Partners, providing risk assessments and method statements where permit to work is required; capture all work activity and job status using Toughbook and/or iPad in line with workflows.
* Assist in the development and training of apprentices and less experienced team members; install and commission new plant and equipment to relevant standards; diagnose and repair faults on systems and plant.
* Pro-actively identify follow-on work or areas for enhancement; conduct own risk assessments and create appropriate method statements for safe maintenance activities.
* Specify parts and equipment for procurement as part of day-to-day duties.
What Skills, Experience & Qualifications You Will Need
* Essential: A recognised Mechanical craft/Technician Apprenticeship and either City & Guilds / ONC / BTEC / NVQ / HNC / HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Eng Tech.
* Full valid driving licence (no more than six points) as you will visit sites across the Yorkshire Region.
Desirable Qualifications
* HNC in a Mechanical discipline
* CompEx 11
Experience and Knowledge
* Safe isolation to current IET regulations; time-served industrial mechanical fitter; working with rotating equipment; ability to produce maintenance reports; fault finding on mechanical systems.
* Desirable: maintaining and repairing centrifugal, positive displacement, RAM, progressive cavity, diaphragm, and peristaltic pumps; gearboxes; compressors; equipment maintenance in accordance with PSSR; blowers; steam systems; chemical plant; hot work/fabrication and welding; operating lifting equipment and slinging; pneumatics and hydraulics.
Other
Ideally, you will have previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter within the water or wastewater sectors or within the broader utilities, process, or manufacturing industries. You will work in confined spaces and must pass medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing, and Spirometry tests to ensure safety in hazardous environments.
