Senior Claims Handler

Description
The postholder must be able to work under pressure, under their own initiative and have an inquiring mind and give keen attention to detail.
The role involves day-to-day investigation and handling of freight liability claims, reporting to the Supervisor and Claims Manager.
Training will be provided as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
The position involves, but is not limited to, the following duties:
* Logging claims on database, getting documents from internal phoenix system and from global offices.
* Trying to find out where the loss or damaged occurs - by documentation/inquiries
* Involves looking at international conventions / contract terms and conditions
* Determining defences to and monetary limits of liability decide if we have a liability and if so how much
* Instructing surveyors/lawyers
* Advising/liaising with insurers.
* Corresponding with Group offices, our insurers, clients, third party claimants (e.g. subrogated insurers, surveyors, Lawyers etc);
* Negotiating and adjusting claims from first notification to final settlement;
* Processing payment of claims
* Pursuing recovery of claims paid;
* General administration;
* Collating file documents;
* Internal group discovery & research
And when required:
* Assistance with Group insurance policy renewal
* Claim Stats Reporting
* Department Projects
* Data entry on claims system;
* Issuing intent to claim & claim acknowledgement letters;
* Invoicing (processing claims payments and inter-company invoices);
* Closure and archiving of files
