Offer description

Audiology Technical Support Officer / Paediatric Distractor

The closing date is 08 April 2026

The Audiology Service provides NHS hearing assessment and hearing aid services throughout Dorset.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills to join our friendly team, to work as a paediatric distractor at Canford Heath Clinic, Poole (3 Days a week) and an Audiology Technical Support Officer at 11 Shelley Road, Boscombe (2 days a week) and other sites across Dorset (on an adhoc basis).

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wishes to work with children and adults in a clinical setting.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, well‑motivated and flexible. Good communication skills are essential, along with excellent organisational and IT skills and the ability to manage a busy workload and be able to work calmly under pressure to provide excellent patient care.

A car driver with a full current driving licence is essential.

Applications from candidates that require current Skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are unfortunately ineligible to apply for this position.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to this role by working alongside paediatric clinicians acting as the 'distractor' to pre‑school and primary‑aged children.

In addition to this the post holder will contribute towards the adult service as an Audiology Technical support Officer (ATO), in hearing aid repair clinics and other various job‑related tasks.

Training will be provided for these roles should the candidate not have the relevant skills.

Employment in this post requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which the Trust will cover the cost of. Applicants who subscribe to the DBS update service are able to present a valid DBS certificate instead of requiring a new check.

Job responsibilities

For the main duties and responsibilities for this role please read the attached job description and person specification. When completing your application please ensure your supporting statement reflects the criteria set out in these documents by showing how your experience and skills apply to this post.

We understand that using AI can be a useful and supportive tool when completing your application. However, we have also seen an increase in the over‑reliance of AI tools which is negatively impacting applications as they remove candidates individuality, and it becomes much harder to get a sense of who you are and your authentic experience. If you do use AI, it should be used to enhance your application and not to create your supporting statement in its entirety. If we suspect you have used AI to create your supporting statement and this does not match your experience, we may withdraw your application.

As part of our vision to have a skilled, diverse and caring workforce, Dorset HealthCare offers support for people getting into work. We offer an employability service to support individuals with application writing, interview skills and other employment support. If you would like or know of anyone who would value this support, please do contact dhc.wideningparticipation@nhs.net
