Are you an outdoors enthusiast ready to change lives?
We are looking for a resilient and inspiring Outdoor Education Teacher to lead our nature-based curriculum at our Alternative Provision (AP) near Colne. This is a high-impact role designed for someone who believes that the best classroom has no walls.
Our students have often faced challenges in mainstream education and may have SEN, SEMH, or ASD needs. Your mission is to use the outdoors from bushcraft to horticulture to re-engage them with learning, build their confidence, and help them develop vital life skills.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver the Outdoor Curriculum: Plan and lead sessions in forest school, adventure training, gardening, or outdoor PE.
Support Vulnerable Learners: Adapt teaching methods to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Behaviour Mentoring: Use the natural environment to teach emotional regulation, teamwork, and resilience.
Direct School Integration: As a direct employee, you will collaborate with our SENCO and leadership team to track student progress and well-being.
The Ideal Candidate
Qualified or Experienced Unqualified: We welcome applications from Qualified Teachers (QTS) or Unqualified Instructors with significant experience in outdoor pursuits, youth work, or military leadership.
SEN Experience: A deep understanding of (or a desire to learn about) supporting children with complex needs.
Resilience: You must be comfortable working outdoors in all Lancashire weather conditions and remain calm under pressure.
Safeguarding: All candidates must undergo an enhanced DBS check upon successful appointment.
Why Join Our Alternative Provision?
Direct Contract: This is a permanent school role, not an agency placement, providing you with long-term stability and full staff benefits.
Creative Freedom: The autonomy to design a curriculum that utilises the local landscape to inspire at-risk youth.
Supportive Environment: Work in a tight-knit team where staff well-being is a priority.
