About this Job To repair our planet we need to rapidly scale environmental innovations that provide solutions to the greatest environmental challenges that we face. In this role, you'll explore the environmental landscape and pinpoint the solutions necessary for real impact. This means thorough research to gain a clear understanding of the promising solutions to the barriers that are limiting the advance of sectors towards sustaina bility. You'll cover everything from green steel to stubble burning to seagrass restoration to alternative protein to biodiversity assets and sustainable shipping - fuelled by insights from some of the planet's leading experts who donate their time to The Earthshot Prize. You will rigorously assess potential solutions using expert review, due diligence, and continuous tracking of the growth of individual innovations over time. The ultimate goal is to effectively celebrate and support the most promising solution s to each specific environmental challenge, and that begins with you r ability to seek out and assess encouraging innovat ions. Key responsibilities Enriching the data on solutions including through using external data sources, prize process reviews, and leveraging partners and experts associated with The Earthshot Prize, enabling ever more useful categorising of the solutions in the portfolio. This will enable matchmaking of solutions to opportunities available through the Earthshot Prize network. F inding solutions that match our criteria, including environmental need, te chnical credibility and i mpact potential. Researching and leading insights into environmental challenges and what is needed to address problems and repair the planet. Developing and owning relationships with leading climate and nature experts around the world who support The Earthshot Prize, bringing their insight about the state of environmental innovation into our understanding of our portfolio of solutions. Driving insights from the full portfolio of data in alignment with key strategic questions to be able to direct plans for searching, selecting and accelerating solutions – a vital contribution to the forming of The Earthshot Prize strategic planning. Candidate criteria Professional experience assessing innovations including understanding diverse types of innovation and how to appreciate their merits. This could include commercial start ups and scale ups, NGO innovation and innovation led by city or national governments. Will likely have direct experience with an innovation unit, accelerator, start-up investor, philanthropic funder of innovation or environmental policy. Research experience and knowledge in a core Earthshot (Nature, Oceans, Air, Waste, Climate), understanding the needs of the sector, and the types of innovation in the sector including what is working and not working and what is needed. A BSc or MSc in a relevant STEM field, or equivalent professional experience. Research training and experience of positively engaging scientists, economists, civil servants and other experts to be able to draw out insights about specific environmental issues, the breakthroughs needed to address them, and the quality of individual innovators. Ability to work with and query large datasets of qualitative and quantitative information and manage insights projects. Ability to effectively convey the need for, and share the results of, specific research and insights projects, in writing and verbally. You will be a self-starter, cherishing the opportunity to experiment and learn, keen to work with colleagues to jointly solve challenges, and ambitious to maximise the power of the Earthshot Prize portfolio. You will be diligent and organised in the execution of assessment tasks. You will also be resilient, flexible, kind, and able to operate in a rapidly changing start-up environment in this developing organisation. Benefits Annual Leave – We believe that taking time away from work is incredibly important. You will be entitled to 25 days plus any statutory bank/public holidays. Our holiday year runs from 1st April to 31st March. Pension – We contribute the full auto enrolment contribution of 8% into your pension after 3 months service. You do not have to contribute but you can if you wish. Life Assurance/Death in Service – From day one, we want to give you peace of mind and ensure all our employees are covered (4 x salary) under our life assurance policy. Critical Illness Cover – From day one, we want to give you peace of mind and ensure all our employees are covered (2x salary) under our critical illness cover. Private Medical Insurance – Should you need it, we want you to have access to private healthcare and provide access to insurance to cover the costs of private healthcare, from diagnosis to treatment. We will cover the cost of your insurance, but you can choose to add your family to the scheme. Employee Assistance Programme – Provided by BUPA, you will have 24/7 access to counselling sessions, online tools and resources to assist you in managing your mental health and wellbeing. Family leave – We want to support you and your family and offer enhanced pay and leave after 3 months service. Our maternity/adoption pay and leave is 6 months full pay and our paternity/non pregnant parent pay and leave is 3 months full pay. We operate Flexible Fridays. We limit team interactions and meeting expectations on Fridays, giving people the chance to use Fridays flexibly to complete work, or give time to non-work activities if work duties have been completed for the week.
