How would you like to be paid for five days but only work four*?

Our colleagues’ wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at OFG, so we’re always looking for new ways to improve everyone’s work/life balance. We’re taking part in a trial of the 4-Day Working Week, meaning that you could be working one day less a week (or equivalent).

If the trial is a success, we’ll be rolling the 4DWW out across the Group – so there’s never been a more exciting time to join #teamOFG!

Job Title: Secondary English Teacher

Location: Oakham Shires School, Rutland, LE15 6JB

Salary: Up to £39,000 per annum depending on experience (not pro rata)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm

Contract: Permanent, Term Time only

UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship.

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for an English Teacher to join our close-knit team at Oakham Shires School, part of Options Autism.

We are looking for a Secondary English teacher to support our students in achieving English Language and English Literature at GCSE and support the delivery of English across the wider school as subject leader.

About the role

Experience of closing the gaps for disadvantaged and SEND pupils would be beneficial as you would be supporting autistic teenagers that have struggled throughout their school journey to achieve their academic and life goals.

Class groups are small, allowing you to focus on each pupil’s needs; all of our pupils are treated as individuals, with teaching adapted to meet their needs. A knowledge and understanding of autism and developmental trauma would be beneficial. We use an “in their own time and space” philosophy to support our pupils in navigating their lives. We focus on understanding behaviour as communication and use this to support social and emotional development. We have a strong safeguarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected, and involved in decisions.

We need teachers who have a passion for working with pupils, a compassionate, caring manner, and a mature, non-judgemental approach. You should be a clear communicator and resilient.

At Oakham Shires, we have a maximum of 6 pupils per class with adult support, reducing paperwork, and allocate 7½ hours per week of non-contact time for training, PPA, meetings, etc. Staff enjoy a cooked lunch with pupils daily, with time set aside for wellbeing.

Qualifications required:

* QTS / BEd / PGCE or Equivalent
* Experience of teaching English and Literacy, including early reading, phonics, and up to GCSE

This role is not suitable for an ECT.

About the school

Oakham Shires School is an independent SEN school, part of the Options Autism group.

Students are supported to achieve their Outcomes within their Education Health and Care Plan, develop life skills, and gain qualifications in Maths, English, and Science.

Options Autism has provided care and education for over 16 years, supporting individuals with autism, complex needs, and learning difficulties. As part of Outcomes First Group, we lead in setting and delivering innovative approaches for measurable outcomes.

We are proud to be certified as a ‘Great Place to Work’ for five consecutive years as of 2024.

Why join Options Autism?

Your health and wellbeing are important to us, so you'll receive an exceptional reward package including:

* Life Assurance
* Pension scheme with optional contributions
* “Your Wellbeing Matters” – mental health support and health checks

Our Flexible Benefits Platform, Vista, offers:

* A range of health, wellbeing, and insurance benefits
* Discount options in the UK and abroad
* Cycle to Work Schemes
* Electric Car Purchase Scheme
* Critical illness cover
* Family Growth Support, including enhanced maternity/paternity leave and fertility treatments

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils. All applicants will undergo social media checks, and successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS.

Note: We reserve the right to close the vacancy early if a high volume of applications is received.

*You’ll work 80% of your contractual hours for 100% of your pay, giving you more time for personal pursuits. The 4DWW is subject to successful probation and is not a contractual benefit.
