The role involves ensuring smooth and cost-effective resolutions for a variety of FD&D claims, including claims in litigation, while building and maintaining strong relationships with Members and brokers. You will mentor and guide colleagues, sharing your expertise and supporting their growth. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with functions such as P&I Claims, Loss Prevention, and Underwriting. You will also prepare reports, assist with audits, and support business development activities.
Key Responsibilities
* Handle a high-volume and variety of FD&D claims, including complex matters, for owners and charterers in accordance with FD&D policies and procedures; ensure claims are resolved efficiently and cost-effectively.
* Manage relationships with Members and brokers, ensuring they receive the highest levels of service.
* Mentor, supervise and manage colleagues in the sector, sharing knowledge and skills with less experienced teammates.
* Collaborate closely with colleagues in P&I Claims, Loss Prevention, and Underwriting to handle claims, identify risk trends, and manage relationships.
* Prepare agendas and reports; inform the sector of significant developments as required by management.
* Assist with audits and peer reviews; contribute to developing and improving claims handling and operational processes.
* Support business development activities and networking with Members and customers locally and overseas, in coordination with the Head of FD&D Claims and others.
* Support the sector in building and maintaining a high-performing and inclusive team environment while collaborating with enabling functions.
* Acquire and maintain a good understanding of, and act in accordance with, company-wide, functional, and sectoral rules, policies, guidelines, and procedures.
* Actively contribute to claims initiatives and Expertise Teams as required.
About you
Skills/Qualifications/Experience
* England & Wales qualified Solicitor or overseas equivalent, 4+ years PQE.
* Experience handling FD&D-type claims, including complex matters.
* Understanding of FD&D Rules.
* Basic knowledge of shipping terms and common ship operations.
* Experience handling shipping disputes in litigation (court or arbitration) or equivalent commercial litigation experience.
* IT literate with the ability to quickly adapt to new systems.
* Efficient and effective administration skills.
* Ability to assist with cases in a controlled, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
* Good planning and organisational skills with the ability to cope with demanding workloads.
