Job Summary
The SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) plays a crucial role in ensuring that children with special educational needs receive the support they require to thrive in an inclusive educational environment. This position involves collaborating with teachers, parents, and external agencies to develop and implement effective strategies tailored to each child's unique needs. The SENCO will also be responsible for monitoring progress and providing guidance on best practices in teaching and learning.
Duties
* Coordinate the identification and assessment of children with special educational needs.
* Develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with teachers, parents, and specialists.
* Provide support and training to staff on strategies for teaching children with diverse needs.
* Monitor the progress of students with special educational needs and adjust interventions as necessary.
* Liaise with external agencies, including speech therapists and behavioural specialists, to ensure comprehensive support for students.
* Communicate effectively with parents regarding their child's progress and any concerns that may arise.
* Promote an inclusive classroom environment that caters to the needs of all learners.
* Stay updated on current legislation and best practices related to special educational needs.
Skills
* Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
* Experience in teaching physical education or a related field is advantageous.
* Knowledge of applied behaviour analysis techniques to support children's learning behaviours.
* Familiarity with preschool education practices and principles.
* Previous experience working with children in various settings, including childcare or toddler care environments.
* Strong background in maths tutoring or related subjects to assist children academically.
* Understanding of speech therapy techniques to aid communication development among students.
* Ability to work collaboratively within a team while demonstrating strong leadership qualities when necessary.
