Overview
Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Croydon Office. An ambitious geotechnical engineer is sought to step into a leadership role, spearheading complex ground investigations and foundation designs for high-profile infrastructure, residential, and commercial developments. You will set technical standards, champion innovative soil-structure solutions, and shape strategic direction while mentoring and expanding a geotechnical team. Backed by chartership support, specialist training, and flexible working.
Responsibilities
* Lead & Mentor: Nurture the skills and confidence of junior and mid-level engineers through hands-on coaching, technical workshops, and career guidance. Create an open environment where questions are encouraged and fresh ideas flourish. Play a key role in recruiting and building a high-calibre geotechnical team.
* Drive Technical Excellence: Own the design and delivery of challenging site investigations, ground models, and foundation solutions for building, infrastructure and civil engineering projects. Set the standard for quality, ensuring every report and design meets rigorous industry codes and client expectations. Introduce innovative approaches to slope stability, retaining structures, ground improvement, and soil-structure interaction.
* Champion Growth & Collaboration: Partner with business development teams to shape winning proposals and secure exciting new contracts. Forge strong relationships with clients and project teams, embedding geotechnical insight at the heart of each project. Represent our geotechnical practice in presentations, workshops, and stakeholder meetings.
Who You Are
* Chartered (or near-Chartered) with ICE, IStructE, or equivalent, backed by at least 5 years of hands-on geotechnical experience.
* A natural leader who thrives on mentoring and developing technical talent.
* Confident managing commercial aspects of projects, from scoping and costing to client liaison.
* Proficient in PLAXIS, GEO5, or similar geotechnical software, with a keen eye for practical innovation.
