Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site. We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year. The nursing team is currently comprised of the Lead Nurse and 2 band 7 specialist nurses, we are recruiting an additional band 7 specialist nurse and 2 band 6 associate specialist nurses to complete the team. We work alongside a team of 5 palliative care consultants, a Grid trainee and SpIn (Special Interest) trainees. The post will be required to deliver the highest quality palliative, end of life and bereavement care to babies, children and young people within Alder Hey and across Cheshire and Merseyside and the wider North West region. Our team values centre around kindness and compassion to each other, our professional colleagues and most importantly the children and families we support. We provide a 7 day service and a 24/7 on call service to enable families to be supported in their preferred place of care at end of life, including a medical on call. This requires all members of the nursing team to participate in the on call rota. We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic nurses who are passionate about providing the best possible care. We are looking for a compassionate individual to fill this exciting and challenging position and work as a specialist nurse to lead, co-ordinate and deliver palliative and end of life care to children and young people aged 0-19 years, and bereavement care to their families. Care is provided in a variety of settings including the home, hospices or in a hospital. The specialist nurse will need to work closely and foster good relationships with all members of the child’s multi-disciplinary team and with colleagues from health, social care and education. The post holder will be a qualified children’s nurse with significant palliative care experience.
