The Environment Agency is looking for an ECU Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) within the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The role focuses on removing the financial benefit from criminals and ensuring we meet our obligations under POCA. We value difference and are committed to being an inclusive employer. Responsibilities
* Provide strategic leadership for financial investigations and the management of the ECU in line with POCA requirements.
* Manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, ensuring high performance and development.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence at senior levels and align with EA priorities.
* Support the wider organisation in improving practices, share lessons learned, and advise enforcement officers nationwide on POCA.
* Contribute to the team’s development and capability, identify areas for improvement, and lead changes to working practices.
* Work in a nationally dispersed team environment and engage with enforcement staff and partners across the country.
Experience/skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Strong understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in the law enforcement sector with knowledge of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication skills, including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Ability to identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its members.

This is a hybrid working role with flexible arrangements from home and your nearest office. Some travel across the country for meetings and operational duties is required. Incident response is a central part of our operations, and you may be required to participate in incident response or business continuity activities, which may attract additional payment.
