Offer description

The Department receives approximately patients per annum of which about 20% are paediatrics. We have dedicated Majors and Paediatric areas as well as a good sized 4 bedded resus area. We also have an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) which is looked after by the senior doctors and Emergency Nurse Practitioners in the department and manages all minor injuries and minor illnesses. In addition there is a GP and Physiotherapy run Urgent Primary Care Centre attached to the UTC. We receive major trauma and thrombolyse strokes as well as seeing the whole range of emergency patients.

Please be advised the role may close early due to high volume of applications.

You will work a full shift rota identical to the other junior doctors at your level. The rota will involve working one in 2.5 weekends. There is good supervision with 24 hour senior shop floor cover and most of the teaching and training will take place on the shop floor. Additionally there are structured teaching sessions including Journal clubs run by the department.

There is excellent opportunity for you to gain teaching experience as we have a daily teaching ward round and also host medical students from Cardiff and Manchester. There is also excellent opportunity for attending life support courses as these are taught within the hospitals resuscitation department and study leave is encouraged and supported within the department. Audit is encouraged and supported
