What you'll be doing:
* Lead the collation strategy for mass properties data to deliver weight and centroid control on multi-billion pound submarine programmes.
* Be responsible for aggregating weight and centroid reports, presenting the status to the Chief Naval Architect, and generating mitigation plans.
* Define and manage the mass budgets for submarine programmes and their breakdown to system level.
* Create and maintain a comprehensive database of parts' mass properties.
* Promote a culture of weight control and work with system engineering to integrate weight as a fundamental design constraint.
* Conduct Research and Development activities, promoting BAE Systems' interests at UK and international conferences.
* Perform conceptual parametric estimations for mass distributions and moments of inertia, developing methods and tools for mass properties estimation.
* Provide Subject Matter Expert reviews of weight control methodologies for non-submarine programmes within BAE Systems group.
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
* Degree qualified in Engineering or Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
* Ability to work independently and provide technical leadership.
* Experience of weight management.
Desirable:
* Chartered Engineer or ability to achieve Chartered status within 12 months.
* Experience of weight control on large programmes.
* Experience with large, complex electrical or mechanical systems.
* Experience using VBA or Python to automate data manipulation tasks.
* Experience with CAD packages and programmes.

The Weight Engineering Team:
A multidisciplinary team of Engineers and Data Scientists estimating, collating, and presenting mass properties data for submarine programmes. They play a critical role in boat design and safety. Relocation support packages are available for eligible roles.
