Consultant in Gastroenterology
We are expanding our Gastroenterology and Hepatology department as part of the launch of our Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon (jan 2025). The post involves joining an existing team of 8 senior medical staff across four endoscopy rooms at the Great Western Hospital site and screening (ERCP/stenting). The Community Diagnostic Centre is planned to launch in October 2025 and the successful candidate will work across dual sites between the Great Western Hospital and the CDC. We use the latest Olympus scopes and stacks for both sites and offer ERCP, EUS, BCSP, Small Bowel Capsule endoscopy, Oesophageal dilatation and 1 GA list per month. There are plans to commence Oesophageal stenting, currently performed in radiology, with future integration into the gastroenterology screening lists.
Interest in Nutrition / IBD / Hepatology will be encouraged. The post holder would be encouraged to develop and lead a subspecialty interest. Upper GI and HPB cancer are managed collaboratively with John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford. Our MDTs are well supported by pathology, radiology and surgeons, working closely with surgical and radiology colleagues.
Responsibilities
* Join a well-established, friendly team and contribute to delivering a high-quality gastroenterology service across two sites.
* Provide patient care within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology departments, including involvement in endoscopy procedures (ERCP, EUS, BCSP, capsule endoscopy, oesophageal dilatation) and the planned oesophageal stenting in the future.
* Work across dual sites between the Great Western Hospital and the Community Diagnostic Centre.
* Participate in MDT meetings and collaborate with pathology, radiology, surgeons and colleagues to provide evidence-based care.
* Take a leadership role in training and supervising junior colleagues and contribute to service improvements.

* Engage in staff wellbeing initiatives and access the organisation’s wellbeing support.
Qualifications and Opportunities
* Experience as a Consultant in Gastroenterology (with interest in Nutrition / IBD / Hepatology encouraged).
* Opportunity to develop and lead a subspecialty interest within the department.
* Collaborative management of Upper GI and HPB cancer with John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford.
Specialist Areas and Training
* Multidisciplinary team working and regular MDT discussions to provide evidence-based care.
* Continued responsibility for patient care, including administrative duties associated with patient care (with secretarial support).
