Skills Coach (Social Worker Degree Apprenticeship)
Following the fantastic success of the Degree Apprenticeship in Social Work we are recruiting another skills coach. This is a permanent part-time (0.8) role working 29.6 hours a week. It is a variable hybrid role. You will be part of a fast growing, highly motivated, proactive team engaging with a wide range of employers, apprentices, and academic colleagues from across different faculties. You will act as the point of contact for apprentices and employers, providing information, advice, and guidance, coaching and support. You will monitor progress against the apprenticeship standard and prepare apprentices for End Point Assessment. You will maintain strong employer relationships, ensuring apprentices make excellent progress in their skills development in the workplace and employers facilitate competence against the apprenticeship standard.
Typically, you will:
1. Conduct reviews with apprentices and their line managers both in person in the workplace and on-line or by telephone, building productive relationships with both apprentice and employer and identifying any emerging issues at an early stage, providing interventions where required.
2. Provide the first point of contact for both apprentices and for managers and mentors in the workplace keeping them informed of learner progress.
3. Coach the learners in developing the skills and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard and help them to evidence their competence in an e-portfolio.
4. Conduct Skills Workshops, to prepare the apprentice for the End Point Assessment.
5. Provide ongoing pastoral support to apprentices, referring to Student Services where necessary.
6. Liaise with academic teams and support students with their assignments, in particular the workplace projects.
7. Represent the University in the workplace and provide information, advice and guidance.
The ideal candidate should have:
8. Experience as a qualified Social Worker and Practice Educator Level 2.
9. Experience of teaching/assessing students, apprentices or trainees
10. Experience of leadership and management roles in Health and Social Care, Education, Industry, or Public Sector
11. Experience of developing positive and successful relationships with employers
12. A clean driving licence, be able to drive and also travel by public transport when required
