As a Laboratory Technician, you will carry out both routine and non‑routine quality control analysis, directly contributing to the verification of incoming raw materials, in‑process testing, and comprehensive final product analysis. This role will operate in support of a manufacturing plant that runs 24 hours; you will provide weekday night‑shift analytical support to the team between Monday 10pm and Saturday 6am (there is a weekend shutdown).
What You’ll Do
The role is predominantly laboratory‑based, providing analytical data to the wider team. You will analyze a range of chemical products, such as surfactants, providing detailed raw‑material, in‑process and final‑product testing to ensure the plant uses correct materials, that processes are effective, and that the final product meets specifications.
* High‑Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Gas Chromatography (GC) (the most commonly used techniques)
* Colorimetric and potentiometric titrations
* Karl Fischer moisture analysis and Loss on Drying
* pH and Specific Gravity measurements
* Brookfield Viscosity determinations
* Ion Chromatography
* Fourier‑Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Ultraviolet (UV) Spectroscopy
Your Background
We seek a candidate with a chemistry or related background; training on equipment will be provided. The role requires arriving by 10pm and finishing at 6am, so candidates should ideally drive or live close by Irlam. Candidates can be graduates or qualified via experience. Experience with HPLC and GC is advantageous. Comfortable working nights is essential.
