The School of Health Sciences invites applications for a permanent part-time post working in the School of Health Sciences. The post is located on campus at Bangor and at clinical placement sites across North Wales, with potential remote working time under the Dynamic Working framework to support work–life balance (to be discussed at interview).
Job Number: BU04009. Grade 7. Salary: £38,249 - £45,413 p.a. pro rata. Contract: Permanent. Closing Date: 12-06-2026.
Responsible to: Lead for Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy Programmes.
Applications are invited for the above permanent part-time post. Duties include supervision of undergraduate dental hygiene and dental therapy students and the teaching of dental programmes and assessment of undergraduate dental hygiene students within the clinical environment. The successful candidate will commence as soon as possible. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Teaching Duties: To engage in the teaching of dental programmes and assessment of undergraduate dental hygiene and therapy students within the clinical environment.
* Monitoring: To monitor the activities and actions of undergraduate dental hygiene students to ensure development of clinical skills and knowledge aligned with course learning outcomes.
* Feedback: To offer appropriate feedback and encourage reflection of students.
* Clinical Guidance: To offer guidance in clinical dental practice within the GDC scope of practice.
* Clinical Education Standards: To ensure clinical dental education standards are maintained by following evidence-based practice and National and Local clinical guidelines and care pathways.
* Organisation: To take day-to-day responsibility for the organisation and coordination of patient treatment within undergraduate dental programmes in line with policy and procedures.
* Assessment: To be involved in the assessment of students in line with the School’s quality assurance requirements.
* Administration: To undertake administration related to clinical supervision of students.
* Programme Development: To contribute towards programme developments and engage in development activity related to dental hygiene or therapy and training of the dental team.
* Clinical Skills: To maintain clinical skills via contribution to patient treatment and care and to maintain and develop scholarly activities alignment with university strategies.
Administrative And Wider Contribution Duties
* Participate in student recruitment and induction procedures (e.g. Open Days).
* Contribute to School management and administration of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (e.g. organisation of exams, involvement in accreditation/QA procedures).
* Contribute to marketing of programmes through School and College activities and other marketing initiatives.
* Undertake other duties relevant to the School’s activities as directed by the Programme Lead.
* Undertake other administrative duties as directed by the Head of School (e.g. membership of School boards and task groups, supporting undergraduate student experience).
Other Duties And Responsibilities
* Participation in performance reviews and development activities.
* Compliance with the University’s equality policies, Dignity at Work and Study Policy, and Welsh Language Scheme.
* Health, safety and wellbeing duties, including compliance with health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
* Essential: Educated to degree standard in dental therapy.
* Essential: Diploma in Dental Hygiene Therapy / Degree in Oral Sciences or Dental Hygiene and Therapy.
* Essential: Registration with the GDC as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist.
* Desirable: Formal teaching qualification such as PGCertHE.
Experience/Knowledge
* Essential: Substantial experience of working as a dental hygienist/therapist within a primary care setting.
* Desirable: Experience in clinical training of the dental team and teaching experience within Higher Education.
Skills/Abilities
* Essential: Excellent clinical skills and ability to supervise students.
* Essential: Ability to work within a team and excellent communication skills.
* Essential: Demonstrable IT skills (e.g., VLE techniques and learning technologies).
* Desirable: Experience in clinical assessment of students.
Other
* Essential: Flexible approach; ability to travel between sites; commitment to the University Mission.
* Desirable: Welsh language ability; opportunities to learn Welsh if not currently proficient.
