Join our team of education volunteers based in Marple. This volunteer role includes leading workshops, guided walks, and activities to introduce primary school children to the rich heritage and wildlife of the Peak Forest Canal and Marple Lime Kilns. All of our sessions are designed to inspire young people in heritage and geography of the local area as well as links to science and wildlife.
Being an Explorers Volunteer is a rewarding experience. The role is full of variety, flexibility, and a lot of fun! We inspire children and young people about our canals and rivers, using the waterways as a tool to build life skills, raise aspirations, and connect children with the great outdoors.
We provide full training and resources for leading groups of children, including training days and team meetings. You will have the support of a Learning & Skills Co-ordinator and fellow volunteers. We also reimburse travel costs.
For roles working with children, we seek volunteers who have:
- Previous experience working with children
- A desire to work outdoors
- Confidence to talk to and deliver workshops to groups of children
- Ability to enthuse young people through practical activities
- Flexibility to volunteer as needed
- Ability to drive to various locations
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
This role involves regulated activity with children and adults at risk, as defined by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. An Enhanced Criminal Record check will be undertaken, and references will be checked. A criminal record does not necessarily disqualify you from volunteering with us.
