Trustee - Digital Specialism
Role Overview (Unremunerated Volunteer Position)
As a Trustee, you will ensure our charity fulfils its purpose for the public benefit and meet its key legal duties.
* You will act in the charity's best interests.
* You will help safeguard the good name and values of Dorothy House, ensuring effective administration, responsible management of resources and financial sustainability.
* Your input will be crucial in guiding the organisation's strategic direction, setting goals, evaluating performance, and providing strong governance oversight.
* You will also support and challenge the Executive Team in delivering our digital objectives and championing innovation across the charity.
Key Responsibilities
As our Digital Trustee, you will:
* Provide strategic oversight of digital transformation, ensuring our digital objectives are implemented effectively and sustainably.
* Engage with the Executive and Leadership Teams to support their capabilities in delivering our digital strategy.
* Offer independent advice and challenge on digital opportunities, risks, and innovations.
* Support the identification and implementation of new technologies that improve our care delivery, governance, and organisational efficiency.
* Champion cyber security, risk management, and good digital governance at board level.
* Actively participate in the Finance and Performance Committee, which meets quarterly, to enhance our impact in line with our strategic priorities.
* Use your professional expertise and industry connections to help Dorothy House thrive in a digital age.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking someone with:
* Professional digital transformation experience, with a proven track record of delivering technological and organisational change.
* Senior-level leadership experience, ideally within healthcare, the third sector, or not-for-profit organisations.
* Expertise in cyber security, data protection, and digital governance.
* Strong understanding of digital enablers such as agile project management, open source, cloud technologies, and digital service delivery.
* Strategic insight and the ability to balance innovation with risk management.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders at every level.
* A commitment to palliative care and the mission of Dorothy House.
* Integrity, good independent judgement, and the ability to think creatively and strategically.
* An understanding of trusteeship responsibilities and willingness to undertake training as required.
* A collaborative approach, working effectively as part of a team.
* Be eligible to be a trustee and 'fit and proper person'.
Time Commitment
Attendance at quarterly board meetings (3 hours) and participation in two annual Strategy Away Days at Winsley
Membership of the Finance and Performance Committee with quarterly meetings (in-person, virtual, or hybrid).
Engagement in ad-hoc meetings and wider Dorothy House activities as appropriate.
Preparatory work in advance of meetings, including reviewing board papers.
Appointment Details
The term is 3 years, renewable up to a maximum of 9 years (3 x 3-year terms).
Training in the responsibilities of charity trustees will be provided.
