Graduate Teaching Assistant Roles
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:
1. Support pupils with a range of additional needs including autism (from low to high support needs), PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), and speech/language communication differences
2. Help young people who may be at risk of exclusion, disengagement, or interaction with the youth justice system
3. Use neurodiversity-informed approaches to reduce anxiety, build routines, and scaffold communication and regulation
4. Empower pupils to develop emotional resilience, self-awareness, and healthy peer relationships
5. Be a consistent, trusted adult figure in a trauma-informed setting
This role is ideal if you’re pursuing a career in:

8. Social Work or Family Intervention
9. Prison, Court, or Community Rehabilitation Services

Your Responsibilities Will Include:
10. Providing structured 1:1 and small group support to learners with SEN, SEMH, and autism spectrum conditions
11. Delivering behaviour and sensory regulation strategies that consider individual neurocognitive profiles
12. Assisting with personalised learning plans that reflect emotional needs and educational goals
13. Supporting pupils in developing executive function, social reasoning, and life skills
14. Liaising with teachers, therapists, and families to monitor progress and adapt interventions
15. Participating in de-escalation and relational behaviour support (training provided)

Who We’re Looking For:
16. Graduates in Criminology, Psychology, Education, Social Sciences, or Humanities
17. Future professionals in social justice, safeguarding, or rehabilitation
18. Empathetic, non-judgemental communicators with a genuine interest in neurodivergence and inclusion
19. Individuals open to learning about autistic identity, sensory processing, and non-verbal communication
20. Previous experience in education, care, or youth services is welcome, but not essential
You’ll need:
21. A positive, adaptable mindset
22. The ability to build trust and rapport quickly
23. An Enhanced DBS or willingness to apply
