Job overview
We are seeking a proactive Site Microbiologist for our new NHS pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Seaton Delaval. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a pioneering project supporting quality, innovation, and patient safety. The facility is under final design, with construction ongoing until September 2025. Initial employment will be with Northumbria Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust, transferring to the LLP upon formation.
Main duties
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the site Environmental Monitoring plan
* Oversee the Contamination Control Strategy (CCS) with microbiological expertise
* Review environmental and QC microbiology data, produce annual reports
* Support new product introduction with microbiological insights
* Contribute to pharmaceutical quality systems (PQS)
* Manage the QC microbiology laboratory and sterility testing suite
* Lead a collaborative and empowering team culture

Qualifications
* Degree in Microbiology or equivalent
* Eligibility for registration with a professional body (e.g., GPhC, HCPC, RSB, RSC, RPS)
* Professional registration
Experience
* Significant post-qualification microbiology experience in pharmaceutical sterile manufacturing
* Knowledge of MHRA GMP guidelines, Annex 1, and sterile manufacturing processes
* Experience in microbiology QC testing, environmental monitoring, and contamination control
* Experience with pharmaceutical quality systems, non-conformance management, and data analysis
* Leadership experience in managing microbiology teams and participating in regulatory inspections
